New initiatives can move quickly from good intent to a predetermined solution. We are setting a different expectation: begin with context, questions and respect for work that may already be under way.
The discipline of starting carefully
Listening is not a ceremonial first meeting. It means identifying who is affected, whose perspective may be missing, what has already been tried and what constraints shape the issue.
That process may show that a proposed activity should change, wait or not proceed. Treating that as useful evidence is part of responsible programme design.
What we intend to document
For future pilots, we intend to record the question explored, the people consulted, the limits of that consultation and the reasoning behind the chosen response.
- The need as described by intended participants.
- Relevant local efforts and potential areas of duplication.
- Safety, access and inclusion considerations.
- What success could reasonably mean at pilot scale.
A commitment, not an outcome claim
This note describes our intended method. It does not claim that a consultation or programme has already taken place. Future project pages will state their operational status clearly.
